The University of California's Information Technology Accessibility Policy states that all campus websites and web applications should be accessible to people with disabilities, including those who use assistive technologies. Follow guidance from the Digital Accessibility Program team to ensure that you are meeting the accessibility requirements for UC Berkeley websites.

Berkeley Web Builder is built to support accessibility

The platform is regularly tested for accessibility, and any new features are vetted for accessibility before they are deployed. All content creators Berkeley Web Builder sites are responsible for ensuring the accessibility of the content they feature on their sites, including text, images, audio and video, and widget content.

There are many best practices that content creators can follow in order to make their Berkeley Web Builder website as accessible as possible to people with disabilities. Examples include:

  • add alt text to images (especially images containing data or text, such as infographics)
  • use headings correctly
  • use tables for tabular data, not for layout
  • create descriptive link text (no "click here" links!)

Siteimprove platform and integration

All Berkeley Web Builder sites are enrolled in Siteimprove, a third-party platform that uses automated scanning to check website accessibility. The Siteimprove platform and dashboard allows you to efficiently locate and correct accessibility errors in your content (e.g., missing alt text, heading use, etc.).
