About the News feature
The News feature in Berkeley Web Builder allows you to create time-sensitive content and display it on Custom pages using dedicated News widgets, which can be optionally organized by categories. See Figure 1, below, for an example of a Custom page on the Berkeley Web Builder site displaying News content via a "text cards" News widget.
Creating News items
To create or edit News articles, navigate to the Manage Content page on the dashboard and filter by "News" to update the starter content. Alternatively, go to the Add Content page and select the Add news article button.
Note: If you do not see News options on your dashboard, the feature may not be enabled. Check your Features page or contact your Site Manager to request access.
News fields
News articles utilize a full WYSIWYG toolbar and include the following fields:
- Title: The title of the article
- Body: The main content of the article
- News Type (optional): A category used for grouping or filtering articles
- Publication date: The date of the article
- External link and source (optional): Relevant external references
Integration with People feature
If the People feature is enabled on your site, you can associate specific individuals with News content by adding "Person" items as either the author or the subject of an article. These options appear as fields during the creation or editing process.
See Figures 2 and 3, below.
News types
News articles can be tagged with "News types," which serve as the primary category system for this feature. These types allow you to filter content within News widgets.
All News types can be added, edited, removed, or re-ordered on the dashboard's Categories page. To manage them, navigate to Categories, select the News categories link, and then add new terms or modify existing ones. See Figures 4 and 5, below.
News widgets
Once your articles are published, use News widgets to display them on Custom pages or within other features like People. To use the dedicated News widgets, go to the Customize tab of your Custom page, click Add widget, and select News (located in the "Features Content" section). Browse the available listings widgets, select a widget to view a preview, and click the Add button to use. See Figure 6, below.
Each News widget includes configuration options to set a title, designate the number of articles shown, and filter by News type (see Figure 7, below). Depending on the widget style, you may also have options to enable a pager or choose different display options.
