Hero image and color band
The Berkeley Web Builder "Hero" feature allows you to display text in the page title area of a Custom page with either a full-width image or background color or as a color band. Hero images can also be displayed without text.
Custom page
The Custom page type is meant for pages that need multiple sections, rows, and/or columns of content using layouts via the page customization feature.
Basic page
The Basic page content type is meant for simple pages with a fixed, one-column format with a local (sidebar) menu.
Content types
The Berkeley Web Builder platform comes with two built-in, generic content types (Basic and Custom pages), as well as specific content types (News, FAQ, Person, Department, Portfolio, Publication) that are used with the platform's additional features, which are optional and available upon request.
Add content
Content is added to Berkeley Web Builder sites via content types (pages) and page widgets. Any user account with a role can work with content within the scope of that role's permissions.
Accessibility best practices
Berkeley Web Builder is built to support digital accessibility.
Features
The Features page on the dashboard contains a grid of available features on the Berkeley Web Builder platform and whether each feature is enabled on your site.
User accounts and roles
Anyone working on a Berkeley Web Builder site will need to have a user account with a role in order to log in (via CalNet/ cas) and access the site and platform tools. The platform comes with 5 user roles with different levels of permissions: Site Manager, Site Builder, Editor, Contributor, and Member. Only the Site Manager role can modify user roles on user accounts.
User admin menu and dashboard
A sidebar admin menu and a dashboard is available to Berkeley Web Builder user accounts when logged in to their site with a user role. The dashboard contains various sections for completing tasks on your site, such as adding and managing content, using categories, managing menus, accessing site settings, and more.
Login and access
The Berkeley Web Builder platform uses CalNet authentication (CAS) for access to individual sites and platform tools. User accounts will need to have one of the available roles (Site Manager, Site Builder, Editor, Contributor, or Member) in order to log in and access sites and platform tools.
